Grace Shi in an Interview about China´s developing tax system with taxlinked.net

Last week Grace Shi, partner at ECOVIS Beijing, was invited for an interview by Taxlinked.net, an online platform for lawyers, accountants as well as trustees, which allows professionals to connect, interact, exchange knowledge, find solutions together and most important build a valuable worldwide network.

Grace Shi has over fifteen years of experience in accounting, audit and tax advisory in international accounting firms and large domestic corporations. She is a Chinese Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and a Chinese Certified Taxation Agent (CTA). Before joining Ecovis, Grace was the head of a leading international firm in Beijing for more than six years and the CFO of a local company with more than 1,000 employees.

In the interview Grace Shi reveals important information regarding the newest developments of the Chinese tax system such as unifying the current dual turnover tax system consisting of business tax and value added tax into one overall VAT system. Moreover, Grace underlines the recent efforts of China to adapt their national tax legislation further to international tax principles. In order to do so China entered new tax treaties with Switzerland, France, Netherlands and Ecuador last year and is more actively fighting tax evasion.

Conclusively speaking, despite the new developments it is still important for international companies to pay attention to their tax compliance status as multiple new rules have been established and investigations by the local tax authorities, especially on foreigners and foreign-owned enterprises, have been increasing.
