When it comes to finding a counterparty, whether we are representing the buying or the selling side, it all boils down to the same thing: matching the parties to the transaction in such a way that, after the merger or acquisition, both companies develop as a single entity, making the merger or acquisition an accelerator of growth.
This is no easy task, and it can be even more difficult, even after years of experience, to determine whether a transaction will be domestic or international, why we sometimes look to sell to a suitable fund and sometimes to a company in the industry, and why, when looking for a company to buy, we approach some targets and not others.
The transaction itself is also a skilful process. First, you need to understand both sides of the process, the real needs of the owners and the management. A lack of transparency and real cooperation usually ends badly. Such transactions are very much a team game.
